Unstrittig ist, dass Intelligenz zumindest zum Teil vererbt wird. Ein Intelligenz-Gen gibt es aber nicht. Vielmehr ist es das Zusammenspiel von vielen verschiedenen Genvariationen, das unser Denkvermögen beeinflusst – so komplex, dass es die Wissenschaftler noch nicht durchblicken können.

Die ersten IQ-Tests wurden Anfang des 20. Seiner Definition zufolge bezeichnet der IQ den Quotienten aus Intelligenzalter und Lebensalter multipliziert mit 100. Dies ist demnach auch der durchschnittliche IQ eines Menschen. 95 Prozent der Bevölkerung liegen mit ihren IQ-Werten zwischen 70 und 130.
