Can you bypass an Evinrude VRO oil pump?
Running an older outboard can present some challenges. One of them is the constant worry of having the VRO oil pump go out on you. Many boaters elect to bypass a Johnson or Evinrude oil pump. There is a ton of information in the Internet on how to do this.
Is the VRO pump the same as the pump?
The pump functions very similarly to the VRO pump, it is just far less variable, essentially constant (I think mixes at 60:1 at low rpms to 50:1 at high rpms). Actually the VRO itself had two versions – the first was VRO and went from 150:1 to 50:1.

Can A VRO oil pump be disconnected from a fuel manifold?
You can leave those hoses connected as you will be re-using that manifold. carefully disconnect the hose coming from the oil pump to the manifold (on the manifold side). The fuel manifold should now be completely free of the VRO oil pump.

It is the untrained folks who think the VRO is bad. Most of the horror stories are not based on fact and most dealers will tell you that most oil starved motors are the ones that are supposed to be premixed. Re: How reliable is the VRO system?
