Die Insel der Rüstung sollte voraussichtlich bis Ende Juni 2020 veröffentlicht sein und Die Schneelande der Krone sollte im Herbst 2020 erscheinen. Der Erweiterungspass, der beide Gebiete beinhaltet, wird jedoch schon ab dem 9. Januar 2020 zum Vorverkauf bereitstehen.

Um die Insel überhaupt betreten zu können, ist es notwendig, im Hauptspiel zum ersten Mal die Naturzone zu betreten, was nach ein bis zwei Stunden Spielzeit erreicht ist. Danach kann die Insel über den Brassbury-Bahnhof angewählt werden.

Mit Die Insel der Rüstung wurden insgesamt 102 bereits bekannte Pokémon zu Pokémon Schwert und Schild hinzugefügt. Zusätzlich wurden neue Regionalformen von Flegmon und Lahmus hinzugefügt, sowie neue Gigadynamax-Formen der drei Starter-Pokémon Gortrom, Liberlo und Intelleon.
