Was heißt Deimos?
Deimos (altgriechisch Δεῖμος Deímos, deutsch ‚Schrecken‘, lateinisch Terror, auch Metus und Formido) ist ein Daimon der griechischen Mythologie. Deimos tritt in der Regel zusammen mit Phobos, „Furcht“, auf. Bereits in Homers Ilias verbreiten beide als Gefolge des Ares Furcht und Schrecken unter den Kämpfern vor Troja.
Wann wurden die Marsmonde entdeckt?
In Gullivers Reisen (1726) verblüffte der Autor Swift mit präzisen Angaben bezüglich Größe und Umlauf der Marsmonde. Aber erst 1877 fand der amerikanische Astronom Asaph Hall die beiden Winzlinge mit einem neuen Spiegelteleskop am Marineobservatorium bei Washington.

What will happen to Phobos when it breaks up?
Given Phobos’s irregular shape and assuming that it is a pile of rubble (specifically a Mohr–Coulomb body), it will eventually break up due to tidal forces when it reaches approximately 2.1 Mars radii. When Phobos is broken up, it will form a planetary ring around Mars. This predicted ring may last from 1 million to 100 million years.
Is it possible that Phobos is an asteroid?
It’s possible that Phobos (along with Deimos) is a captured asteroid, but there are some problems with that theory. Phobos has a fine dusty layer on its surface called “regolith” and some astronomers have predicted that this material drifts off of Phobos leaving behind a very faint “tail”.

No one is quite sure where Phobos formed. It has the same mineralogical characteristics of a C-type asteroid. It’s possible that Phobos (along with Deimos) is a captured asteroid, but there are some problems with that theory.
