Das E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) wird eingesetzt zur luftgestützten Luftraumüberwachung, als Einsatzleitzentrale (Command-and-Control – C2), sowie für die Kommunikation bei taktischen und Verteidigungseinsätzen. Das E-3 AWACS ist seit dem Jahr 1977 in Betrieb und weltweit im Einsatz.
