Country ist eine Musikrichtung aus den USA. Um das Jahr 1920 begannen vor allem Einwanderer aus Großbritannien und Irland damit, Volksmusik aus ihrer Heimat mit dem damals beliebten Blues zu verbinden. So entstand die Country-Musik. Country ist das englische Wort für Land, hier im Sinne einer ländlichen Gegend.

Drei Jahre später ging in Nashville mit der Grand Ole Opry die langlebigste Radioshow in der Rundfunkgeschichte der USA auf Sendung. Zu den Wegbereitern des Country zählt Jimmie Rodgers. Der Jodler aus Mississippi wird gemeinhin als “Vater der Country-Music” bezeichnet.
